Graphite Golf Shafts

What are the best golf grips to get?

Your hands and fingers will tell you what the best golf grip is.  You need to actually feel it during a swing.  The main thing is not the brand of the grip, but the size.  The right diameter can really help your game.

Help with my driver swing speed?

Hi Gloryclouds, today I played a round I could not get my driver to go straight like I usually can.  I use ladies flex shafts, and my swing speed is 75mph.  Should I get a senior flex shaft?  If so, what kind would get me more distance?  Thanks!

Ladies and Senior shafts are usually the same.  Maybe you had an off day.  You might even consider going with a regular shaft, until you break 90mph.  I would look at Fujikura golf shafts.   You also might consider getting lessons from a professional.

What’s the difference between stiff, regular and flex for golf club shafts?

Golf club shaft flex is a measure of how much the shaft will bend during your swing. For players with high swing speeds, stiff shafts will work better.  To see what flex is best for you, visit your local golf shop or store to get fit for clubs.  For beginners, regular flex is probably the best shaft flex.  It fits a normal golf swing.

Golf tips to stop shanking the ball?

I seem to be moving my hands away from my body when I strike the ball.  I also know that sometimes I do not rotate my right hand at the strike point, and my club face is open at impact.

Your hands moving away from your body at impact is concerning.  Whenever I shank it, I fix it by making sure I take the club straight backwards instead of taking it back on an inside line.

You also may be striking the ball with too flat of a swing plane.  Try playing the ball 2 inches forward in your stance.  This will give some extra space for you to get your right hand around on the ball.  If that still does not work, rotate your right hand counterclockwise on the grip until your right thumb is pointing straight down the shaft of your club.  Good luck!

And at what speed does a golf shaft’s rating go from Stiff to Extra Stiff?

Golf shaft flex rating sometimes depends on the shaft manufacturer.  However, usually the shaft flex rating is determined at 90 miles per hour and less, which is regular, 100-110 should be stiff, and over 110 mph is extrastiff.

What are a couple of golf shafts with a stiff tip?

Fujikura shafts and UST shafts are the leaders in this division.  You will need to do some practice swings to get used to it.  The good thing is that there are a lot of choices.  Price range varies, but you can usually find a good tip stiff shaft from $50 up to $250.

What’s the impact if there’s too much club flex for your swing speed?

Dear gloryclouds, my clubs have a 95 mph rating, and I think my swing is faster than that now.  What is the effect if your clubs have a flex that is too slow?

A weak flex shaft will reduce your distance, but more importantly your accuracy.  Your timing will be affected, so you will see more slices and hooks.  The shaft will feel too much like a whip, and not stiff enough.  Graphite shafts might be a good idea.  If you get stiffer shafts, they may help straighten out your bad shots.
